Wonderfalls soundtrack

Illustration of the Month for October 2005

If you buy the Wonderfalls theme song on iTunes, the cover art is the snow globe with Jaye inside. That just didn't cut it with me for my unofficial soundtrack. Maybe I shouldn't have been so picky; I finished this design weeks ago and have yet to print it out.

Garden State soundtrack

Illustration of the Month for August 2005

Music from the Motion Picture Garden State

After seeing the movie, I checked out the soundtrack on iTunes. It seemed a better deal to just buy the whole thing rather than the songs I really wanted. I don't regret not having the actual jewel case to go with my soundtrack, cause the image they chose for the cover (while yes, a very important scene), lacks the feel of the music. So I decided to make my own.

The design is inspired by this poster for the film:

01 Don't Panic by Coldplay
02 Caring is Creepy by The Shins
03 In the Waiting Line by Zero 7
04 New Slang by The Shins
05 I Just Don't Think I'll Ever Get Over You by Colin Hay
06 Blue Eyes by Cary Brothers
07 Fair by Remy Zero
08 Love WIll Come Through by Travis*
09 Lebanese Blonde by Thievery Corporation
10 The Only Living Boy in New York by Simon & Garfunkel
11 Such Great Heights by Iron & Wine
12 Let Go by Frou Frou
13 Winding Road by Bonnie Somerville
14 The Reason Why by Rachel Yamagata*

*These songs are not on the Official Soundtrack, but were pimped on Zach Braff's Garden State blog. Maybe they were feaured in a promo spot or something.

Cinema 1975 (mostly)

Illustration of the Month for July 2005

An illustration for the Life & Times section of The Gadsden Times. The article was about movies from 1975 still having resonance in 2005, but I didn't read carefully enough and included Superman. So in the version that ran in the paper, the man of steel is replaced by Jack Nicholson for One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. This version looked cooler.

This was originally a photo I took of Leslie Nicholson. Then I took it into Adobe Illustrator. I call it "The Happy Reader" as a play on the Tori Amos song "Happy Worker" cause Les is a Toriphile.

My entry to the art show re:birth.

It's a photo of a tree in our backyard that blooms just as spring begins. The text reads "All last winter we slept in seeming death. But at the right time God awakened us, and here we are to comfort you." -Edward P. Rod

College sketches

Illustration(s) of the Month for February 2005

I've been going through old portfolios of stuff from my dad's house and came across these:

This was for one of my drawing classes at JSU. It's me sitting in the spare bedroom in Southside, reflected in a copper tea kettle. Ebony pencil.

And I think this came out of a sketchbook I kept for extra credit in one of Ms. C's classes. Oil pastel.

Veronica Mars soundtrack(s)

I made this for the Neptune High soundtrack design challenge. (And most all the images and quotes used in my design come from Neptune High's galleries.) Many thanks to the forum posters at Television Without Pity for figuring out the names of the songs featured on the show.

FYI: I made this soundtrack in December of 2004 during the holiday lull of new episodes, which is why any songs featured past then aren't here.

Version 2.0
Season 1 soundtrack

Just as I thought; as the season progressed, there were a lot more songs I wanted to add. Of course, this meant a new cd cover to accompany the updated soundtrack.

First, I went with a dark design. (Clicking on these thumbnails takes you to full size, 150 dpi versions)

.

And when that one looked like mud after I printed it out, I re-tooled all the colors.

.

This time around, the song list goes like this:

Track 01 - "We Used to be Friends" by The Dandy Warhols (Theme Song)
Track 02 - "Word Up!" by Korn (Ep 1.2)
Track 03 - "Edge of the Ocean" by Ivy (Ep 1.3)
Track 04 - "What Are You Afraid Of?" by West Indian Girl (Ep 1.3)
Track 05 - "Little Bit More" by Tony C. & The Truth (Ep 1.10)
Track 06 - "Diverse City" by TobyMac (Ep 1.4)
Track 07 - "Such Great Heights" by The Postal Service (Ep 1.5)
Track 08 - "Momentary Thing" by Something Happens (Weapons of Class Destruction)
Track 09 - "Just Another" by Pete Yorn (Ep 1.1)
Track 10 - "Fireflies" by Amy Cook (Silence of the Lamb)
Track 11 - "Rock and a Hard Place" by Supreme Beings of Leisure (Ep 1.3)
Track 12 - "Fall Behind Me" by The Donnas
Track 13 - "Finding Out True Love is Blind" by Louis XIV
Track 14 - "Slow Hands" by Interpol
Track 15 - "Feel So Free" by Ivy
Track 16 - "Tulips" by Bloc Party
Track 17 - "Kingdom of Chemicals" by Sean Dailey (Ep 1.21 A Trip to the Dentist)
Track 18 - "Bad Boyfriend" by Garbage (Ep 1.22 Leave it to Beaver)

I'm too lazy to go find all the episode numbers and titles, but rest assured that all these songs were featured in the show.
